Children of Compost

The Children of Compost were imagined into being by Donna Haraway, Vinciane Despret, Fabrizio Terranova et al in 2013. In 2122 they are a reality. Selected Children are born with genetic enhancements that give them certain shared sensory cognition and perception with the chosen symbiont species. These are nominated from endangered and newly reintroduced local animal, bird and marine beings. The Children form lifelong bonds with their paired totem, empathetically enhanced by their shared senses. They benefit from extra-human cognition and in return pledge to watch over their twinned beings. In SSSSS lore this is a symbolic mutual Guardian Spirit relationship.
